Beer consumption in Italy is a rapidly growing trend and has increasingly entered the Italian gastronomic tradition. Beer is considered a beverage that can satisfy every category of consumer without limits in tterms of age, geographical area and occasion of consumption.

DATA ON BEER CONSUMPTION

According to ISTAT data, in fact, one italian in two consumes beer. The highest percentage of consumption is that of the center with 53%. In the north, however, the percentage is 51% while in the south and islands there is 49% of beer consumption. Most consumers look for products that express naturalness and well being. Beer is one of these products, in fact it is made with natural ingredients and in addition it offers a variaty of tastes in order to satisfy every request and be suitable for every occasion. According to data, in fact, 48.3% of beer consumer choose the drink to combine it with the foods it perfectly matches. In 2020, Italian beer sales exceeded the turnover of 2 billion euros for the first time. The beer production sector has seen a sharp increase in production, plus positive figures have been recorded also in domestic consumption and exports. These data have led to an increase in employment in Italy.

THE GROWTH OF CRAFT BREWERIES

Over the past decade, craft breweries have experienced strong growth increasing by more than 300%. Craft beers have brought many new beer consumers closer together and have increased the desire for knowledge and experimentation among existing consumers.

One factor that has led to the increase in the custom of drinking beer is also seasonality. In fact, beer consumption has recorded increasing data both in the warmer and colder months.
